Bitcoin is back under pressure.
BTC fell to around $80,200 on October 15, its lowest level in nearly a month, while Ethereum dropped toward $2,315, a fresh two-month low. The selloff comes as hotter U.S. inflation and a sharp AI-stock correction hit risk appetite at the same time.
CPI Is Making the Fed Problem Worse
September U.S. CPI rose 3.7% year over year, above expectations, while core CPI climbed to 2.6%.
That has pushed expectations for another Fed hike higher, particularly for December. The market is now pricing in a much greater chance of a December hike, while expectations for an October move have eased after Fed officials signaled less urgency.
For Bitcoin, the problem is straightforward.
Higher rates → tighter financial conditions → less appetite for risk → more pressure on BTC.

And crypto is feeling the pressure alongside other high-beta assets.
Then AI Stocks Made Things Worse
The selloff is not just about the Fed.
AI-related stocks have come under heavy pressure as investors question whether enormous spending and debt-financed expansion can generate enough returns. CoreWeave has become a particular concern, while major
technology and semiconductor stocks have also weakened.
That matters for Bitcoin because the market is increasingly treating BTC as part of the broader risk trade.
When investors cut exposure to high-risk assets, crypto can get hit quickly.
So, Where Does Bitcoin Go From Here?
The key levels are becoming clearer.
$81,000: immediate downside area. A sustained break could open the door to another leg lower.
$85,000: the first major hurdle on a recovery. 21Shares strategist Matt Mena sees $85,000 as an important level, with a move toward $90,000 possible if macro uncertainty fades. A pullback toward $81,000 remains possible in his view.
There is also a more contrarian view.
BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes argues that an eventual AI downturn could ultimately trigger a massive government response and renewed liquidity — a scenario he believes could benefit BTC and ETH.
For now, however, Bitcoin has a more immediate problem to solve:
Can it hold $81,000 while markets digest higher-for-longer Fed expectations and the AI selloff?
