Bitcoin is moving fast again.
After dropping toward $75,000 last week, BTC has surged roughly 15% in four days, briefly breaking above $87,000 — its highest level since January. And unlike a typical crypto bounce, this rally is being backed by a noticeable return of institutional demand.

So, what changed?
The Money Is Coming Back
The biggest clue is the ETF market.
U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs pulled in nearly $1 billion in a single day on September 21, their strongest inflow in about 11 months. Across two sessions, roughly $1.4 billion flowed into Bitcoin ETFs, suggesting that the recent rally is not being driven by retail traders alone.
Then the move accelerated.
As Bitcoin broke above the $82,000 area, short sellers were forced to cover. More than $800 million in crypto short positions were liquidated over a 24-hour period, adding forced buying to the fresh spot demand.
That combination matters.
ETF inflows provided the bid. Short covering provided the fuel. And once Bitcoin cleared a key technical level, momentum traders had another reason to jump in.
Even the Bad News Couldn't Stop It
What's more interesting is what Bitcoin has managed to ignore.

The Fed has tightened policy, the CLARITY Act failed to advance in the Senate, and Treasury yields remain elevated. Yet Bitcoin has not only recovered from last week's sell-off — it has pushed to an eight-month high.
At the same time, oil prices and Treasury yields have eased from recent highs, while technology stocks have rallied. That has helped revive broader risk appetite, giving Bitcoin another tailwind.
This is why the current move is worth watching.
The market is no longer simply trading the headlines. It is starting to trade the return of demand.
And that leaves Bitcoin at a very different point from where it was just a week ago.
With BTC holding around the mid-$80,000s after touching $87,000, the next question is whether ETF demand can keep absorbing supply — and whether this rally can evolve from a short squeeze into a broader, sustained move.
For BTCUSD, $87,000 is no longer just a headline number. It is becoming the level where the market has to prove how much buying power is really behind this rally.
