Brent Breaks $102: Is Oil Heading for $105?

Oil bulls are back in control.

Brent crude has jumped more than 2% to above $102 a barrel, while WTI has climbed nearly 2% toward $90, as a fresh wave of supply concerns hits the market.

The latest rally has several drivers.

Attacks on tankers in the Gulf and around the Strait of Hormuz have intensified, with the number of vessels passing through the key waterway falling to a two-month low. Crude flows through Hormuz have also dropped sharply from their wartime peak.

At the same time, Hurricane Isaias is threatening U.S. Gulf of Mexico production. Shell and Chevron have already shut in some offshore output, with around a quarter of Gulf oil production reportedly offline.

U.S. inventories are adding another bullish signal: crude stocks fell by 3.2 million barrels last week, more than analysts expected.

Is $105 Next?

The immediate test is $102 for Brent and $90 for WTI.

If supply disruptions continue to worsen, Brent could push toward $105 next. Goldman Sachs has outlined a much more aggressive scenario, warning that intensified attacks on Middle Eastern shipping could send oil toward $120.

But the rally still faces a potential ceiling.

The IEA is accelerating releases from strategic oil stocks, while alternative export routes are helping offset some of the lost Middle Eastern flows. If shipping risks ease and Gulf production normalizes, some of the geopolitical premium could quickly disappear.

For USOIL, the setup is simple:

Above $90 → $92–95 comes into focus.

For Brent, a sustained break above $102 → $105 becomes the next major test.

The real question is whether today's supply shock is temporary — or the beginning of a much tighter oil market.
