China's Central Bank Extends Gold-Buying Streak to 20th Straight Month

The People's Bank of China added to its gold reserves in June, marking a 20th consecutive month of accumulation, according to data released on Tuesday. Gold reserves increased to 75.44 million fine troy ounces from 74.96 million in May, continuing the central bank's recent pattern of increasing its gold holdings.

Despite the higher volume of gold reserves, the estimated U.S. dollar value of China's holdings declined to $303.72 billion from $340.75 billion in May, reflecting movements in international gold prices during the period. Spot gold has eased in recent trading after posting strong gains earlier this year.

The continued purchases are consistent with a broader trend among central banks to diversify reserve assets, a development that has supported global gold demand in recent years.
