Gold prices traded lower on Friday after the Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged earlier this week, while investors continued assessing the outlook for U.S. monetary policy.
Spot gold traded around $4,061–$4,086 per ounce after retreating from the $4,180 level reached earlier this week.
The Fed maintained its policy rate at 3.50%–3.75% in a divided 9–3 decision, with three regional policymakers supporting a rate increase. Market expectations for future Fed policy remained a key focus for precious metals.
Meanwhile, safe-haven demand continued to receive support from ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Separately, the World Gold Council reported that central banks purchased a record 289 tonnes of gold during the second quarter of 2026, highlighting continued official-sector demand.
Investors will continue monitoring upcoming U.S. economic data and Federal Reserve communications for further policy signals.
