Markets are heading into a packed week — and inflation is back at the center of it.
U.S. CPI, PPI and retail sales are all due within days of each other, just as Treasury yields remain near multi-decade highs and oil prices stay elevated. Add the start of Wall Street earnings season, and there are plenty of reasons for volatility to pick up across gold, FX and U.S. indices.

1. U.S. CPI — Wednesday
This is the big one.
September CPI is expected to rise around 3.7% year over year, with higher energy costs contributing to the increase. Core inflation is expected near 2.5%.
A hotter reading could revive expectations for further Fed tightening, potentially pushing Treasury yields and the dollar higher while putting pressure on XAUUSD and U.S. stocks.
A softer number could do the opposite — especially after yields recently surged to their highest levels in more than two decades.
2. PPI & Retail Sales — Thursday
CPI won't be the only inflation test.
Thursday brings September PPI and retail sales, giving markets another look at price pressures and the strength of the U.S. consumer.
Strong inflation alongside resilient spending could reinforce the “higher for longer” rate story. Weak spending, however, could bring growth concerns back into focus.
3. Oil Is Still a Wild Card
Oil remains another major piece of the inflation puzzle.
Brent is trading above $100 after recent attacks on Gulf shipping and energy infrastructure kept supply risks elevated. That matters beyond USOIL and UKOIL: another oil spike could make the inflation outlook even harder for the Fed.

4. Wall Street Earnings Begin
JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup and other major U.S. banks kick off the Q3 earnings season this week.
The S&P 500 remains close to record territory, so investors will be watching whether corporate earnings can justify current valuations — particularly with borrowing costs still elevated.
What to Watch
This week's biggest risk may be the combination of hot inflation, high Treasury yields and expensive oil.
If all three move in the same direction, the reaction could quickly spread across the dollar, XAUUSD, USOIL and U.S. indices.
If inflation cools and yields retreat, the market could get some breathing room.
Either way, Wednesday's CPI may set the tone for everything that follows.
