German Bund Yields Consolidate as Weak U.S. Jobs Data Meets Oil Price Risks

German government bond yields held near multi-week lows on Monday as markets balanced weaker U.S. labor data against renewed oil price pressures. The 10-year Bund yield was around 3.13%, while the two-year yield held near 2.74%.

U.S. payrolls unexpectedly fell by 23,000 in July, sharply reducing expectations for another Federal Reserve rate hike in September and supporting a broader decline in global borrowing costs. However, Brent crude climbed above $84 a barrel as uncertainty over energy shipments through the Strait of Hormuz kept inflation risks elevated.

Trader outlook: European bonds remain caught between dovish global rate expectations and renewed energy-driven inflation risk. Wednesday’s U.S. CPI could provide the next major directional catalyst, while sustained oil gains may limit the downside in Bund yields by keeping inflation expectations elevated.
