British Pound Eases Toward 1.3234 Ahead of Key US Data as Treasury Yields Rise

The British Pound (GBP) weakened 0.22% against the US Dollar, trading near 1.3234 during Wednesday's European session as the US Dollar remained firmer while Treasury yields moved higher. Sterling was among the weaker major currencies on the day, although the Dollar posted its strongest gains against the Australian Dollar, according to intraday currency performance data.

The US Dollar Index (DXY) rose 0.2% to around 101.36, while the benchmark 10-year US Treasury yield climbed to approximately 4.67% after advancing sharply in the previous session. The move followed stronger-than-expected US labor market data released earlier this week.

Tuesday's Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) showed US job openings increased to 7.594 million in May, exceeding both the consensus estimate of 7.3 million and April's revised reading of 7.585 million. The stronger labor market data supported market expectations that the Federal Reserve could maintain a restrictive policy stance while assessing incoming economic data.

Attention now turns to Wednesday's ADP Employment Change report and the June ISM Manufacturing PMI, ahead of Thursday's June Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP) report, which is expected to be among the week's most closely watched US economic releases.

Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh is also scheduled to speak during the North American session. Market participants will monitor his remarks for any additional signals regarding the economic outlook and monetary policy.

Investors are expected to remain focused on upcoming US economic data and comments from Federal Reserve officials for further indications of the outlook for US monetary policy and the US Dollar.
