South Korea’s KOSPI jumped over 5% at the June 25 open, fueled by Micron’s strong earnings. Memory giants SK Hynix spiked over 10% and Samsung Electronics rose more than 6%. KOSPI 200 futures triggered circuit breakers after a 5% jump, pausing algorithmic trading for 5 minutes.
Micron beat Wall Street estimates across revenue, profits, margins and quarterly guidance in after-hours results, lifting Nasdaq 100 futures over 2% at peak. Executives warned AI demand will keep memory supplies tight past 2027, with 16 long-term supply deals locking in steady earnings, shifting chips from cyclical goods to core AI assets.
By 08:20, SK Hynix gained 10% and Samsung climbed 5.43%, pushing KOSPI above 8,900 points for a 5.44% intraday gain. Japan’s Nikkei 225 also rallied 2.76%.
SK Hynix plans a Nasdaq ADR offering to raise around 454.5 trillion won (200 bln yuan), launching July 10, subscription July 14, listing July 29. BofA, Citi, Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan lead the deal. Analysts expect a valuation re-rating; its forward P/E stands at only 3–4x versus Micron’s 8x and SanDisk’s 19x.
