Dow Futures Edge Higher as Technology Stocks Remain Supported, Markets Monitor Potential US-Iran Talks

US stock futures moved modestly higher during European trading on Tuesday, following gains in the previous session led by technology stocks as investors continued to monitor the possibility of US-Iran talks in Doha amid a fragile ceasefire. Dow Jones futures rose 0.08% to around 52,610, S&P 500 futures gained 0.10% to approximately 7,510, while Nasdaq 100 futures outperformed with a 0.20% increase to near 30,110.

Technology Stocks Lead Broad Market Gains

Monday's regular trading session saw the Dow Jones Industrial Average close at a fresh record high, rising 0.59%. Alphabet was among the strongest performers, advancing 5% following its debut as a Dow component after replacing Verizon in the index. Other major technology stocks also posted gains, including Nvidia (+1.3%), Amazon (+3.2%), Meta (+2.2%) and Tesla (+8.5%). Gains were also reflected across the broader market, with the S&P 500 rising 1.18% and the Nasdaq 100 advancing 2.07%, marking one of its stronger daily performances in recent sessions.

Geopolitical Developments Remain in Focus

The prospect of renewed US-Iran discussions in Doha has offered some support to market sentiment, although the ceasefire remains fragile and developments continue to evolve. Current market pricing suggests investors are assigning greater probability to de-escalation, while remaining attentive to the possibility of renewed geopolitical tensions.

Fed Policy Outlook Remains a Key Focus

Despite the positive tone in equities, expectations surrounding Federal Reserve policy continue to influence broader market sentiment. According to the CME FedWatch Tool, markets currently assign a probability of more than 60% to a Federal Reserve rate increase by September. Incoming economic data are likely to remain an important factor in shaping expectations for the policy outlook.

Key Economic Data Ahead

Market attention now turns to Wednesday's ADP employment report and Thursday's Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP) release. Stronger-than-expected labour market data could reinforce expectations that interest rates may remain elevated for longer, while softer data could support expectations for a less restrictive policy outlook.

Market Focus

US equity markets continue to balance expectations for potential geopolitical de-escalation with uncertainty surrounding the Federal Reserve's policy path. Upcoming economic data and developments related to the Doha discussions may contribute to increased market volatility and will remain key areas of focus for market participants.
