Starlink Draws Renewed Attention Following Reports of Russian Electronic Warfare Activity

Reuters reported on July 7, 2026, that Russian forces have deployed electronic warfare systems designed to interfere with Starlink satellite communications used by Ukraine during the ongoing conflict.

According to Serhii Beskrestnov, an adviser to Ukraine's Ministry of Defense, Russia has deployed a jamming system known as Volna Kupol Garant, which is reported to affect Starlink communications within a limited operational area. Ukrainian officials said approximately 10 such systems had been identified.

Ukrainian military officials also stated that the country's 422nd Unmanned Systems Regiment has targeted several of the reported jamming installations during recent operations.

Separately, Rob Lee, a senior fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, said Ukraine's use of drone operations has become an important development in the conflict while noting that electronic warfare capabilities continue to evolve on both sides.
